how to not hate aging
what aging gives us that youth never could
Aging has to be one of the most misunderstood blessings I can think of. It is often viewed as one of the most demotivating and sorrowful things that we are all destined to go through. To add to the doom and gloom, aging is also irreversible. Once you leave your youth behind, there’s no going back, only more aging in the years to come.
However, I want you to pause for a moment and think of aging as a blessing rather than a curse. Oh, it sounds cliché, doesn’t it?
In this article, I’ll help you look at aging from a more realistic and positive perspective, and I promise you’ll feel less anxious of it if you currently do.
First of all, the older you get, the more years you live through, the more experience you gain, the less naïve you become, and the more life lessons you gather that you can pass down to younger people. If one is born into this world, why not live as long as possible? Besides, you also end up with a longer story to tell. As you age, you collect more memories and experiences that you can share in conversations, write about in a journal, or simply replay in your mind. Essentially, your life becomes richer and more interesting.
Have you ever taken the time to sit and think about the many people who passed away during their teenage years or early twenties? Doesn’t that feel incredibly disheartening and sad? I hope this sparks gratitude in you for the fact that you have lived years that many others never got the chance to experience. This especially applies to those who are middle-aged and still relatively healthy. Many younger people are uncertain about whether they’ll even make it to middle age with few or no major health issues. When we’re young, our minds are often clouded with uncertainty and fear about the future that clears up with aging.
As a 22-year-old woman myself, I may not be the most qualified person to tell you this, but I have frequently heard people in their thirties say that they start taking problems more lightly because it isn’t the first time they’ve dealt with them. In fact, they’ve faced similar challenges many times before. I really admire this attitude, and it is something that often comes with age. The older you get, the easier it becomes to navigate life’s problems.
Lastly, although this doesn’t apply to everyone, if you dream of becoming a grandparent someday, the only way to get there is through aging. Imagine being a beloved grandparent whose grandchildren come to for guidance, reassurance, love, and a listening ear. Not everyone might dream of this, but if you do, then this one was for you.
Aging is a precious blessing that has been misconstrued by society. Yes, I know aging comes with its downsides, wrinkles, health issues, and physical decline, but that’s not the be-all and end-all. There are so many perks to aging that outweigh its downsides.
I just hope this article helps anyone who has been struggling with the thought of aging and has always viewed it as something negative. Remember, we all go through it, and it’s up to us to embrace it.

I love the way you romanticized aging. There’s something so pure about collecting wisdom and memories over the years and passing them down to the younger generation. It’s the kind of impact that makes you feel like you truly mattered in this world <3.
